Grażyna Benkowska was born in Gdansk, Poland. She received her degree in electronic engineering from Gdansk Polytechnica in 1975. During the Solidarity movement in Poland, she risked her life in order to take pictures of the monumental event occurring in the city. In 1987, Grazyna moved to New York, where she continued to expand her interest in photography.

Along with that she has a great passion for travel photography and claims it to be one of her favorite hobbies. Grazyna has won multiple picture of the month awards, as well as winning a photography contest in the Polish-American Photographic Club in New York City. Her work has also been published in numerous publications such as the Polish Daily News Dziennik, and displayed in the Polish Consulate General in New York City multiple times.
