Luciano Wiesław Burdzy

My name is Luciano Wiesław Burdzy, I was born in Sandomierz, Poland. I’ve been drawing and painting since elementary school, and after getting an AMI camera, I took pictures. Since 1976 I have been a member of the Association of Young Photographers in Tarnobrzeg, since then I have become more interested in photography, learning how to take black and white photos and develop them in the darkroom. In the years 78-80 I worked and studied painting in Cracow, in 1980 I moved to Rzeszów, where I worked, studied and experimented with photography. Using AMI, Start, Zorka, Zenit, Smena, Praktica cameras. In 1989, the newly created “A-Z Dziennik Obywatelski” announced a competition for a photojournalist, and out of 50 candidates, I became the winner. There, in April, I was named journalist of the month for the best photojournalistic work.

In May 1990 I moved to the United States where I studied and worked for few photography and printing companies including Color by Pergament where I made reproductions of paintings, retouched large format positives, learned all photographic techniques including Dye Print. At the end of the 1990s, I moved to the department of electronic photo processing, working on high-speed computers. At that time, we worked with advertising agencies and producers such as SONY, LOREA’L, REVLON, DKNY, Penguin Random House. In my spare time, I worked as a photographer at weddings and other events.

My collection now consists of over a million photographs. I photograph everyday life but there was a time when I used to take a lot of panoramas by hand gluing together a dozen or so photos, but now with a digital camera and software, panoramas are very easy to do. Birds, landscapes, and lights at night are my favorite photo subjects. However, the most beautiful photos are taken in Poland, where my thoughts work differently and my eyes catch these amazing shots of my beloved land. For more than 50 years, photography has changed the world, and my life with it has never been boring.
