Dariusz Kanarek is a multimedia artist, photographer, and director, born in Warsaw in 1973. He has lived in the United States since 1990, where he earned a degree in Multimedia Arts and Sound Directing from the University of New Haven, followed by a master’s in Film Editing and Digital Imaging from New York University (NYU) in 2004.
His media career began in Poland in the late 1980s, hosting youth radio programs for Polish Radio and appearing on national television. In the U.S., he joined NBC/Comcast in 1996, working his way up from assistant sound director to editor, earning multiple ACE and NECTA Awards for his contributions. After a decade at NBC, he became Vice President at Comedynet, collaborating with comedians such as Lewis Black, Jim Gaffigan, and Ray Romano.
In 2007, Kanarek became Director of Production and Multimedia Development at Taunton Press, overseeing photo and video departments and managing large-scale multimedia projects. His work led to the release of over 70 video titles and collaborations with major brands like National Geographic and The New Yorker.
Since 2015, he has consulted for international multimedia firms, including INM in Canada. In 2017, he refocused on fine art and photography, becoming an influential figure in the Connecticut arts scene. His photography has been widely published and exhibited, earning him recognition as Bridgeport’s “Artist of the Month” and a key contributor to initiatives like “Colorful Bridgeport.”
In 2022, he received a grant from the Connecticut Arts Council to curate an exhibition exploring migration and identity through portraiture and short documentaries. In 2023, he was elected President of the Polish-American Photographic Club, where he has played a key role in organizing and curating exhibitions that have featured some of the most renowned Polish photographers. His leadership has brought greater visibility to Polish photographic art in the U.S., fostering cross-cultural dialogue and elevating the presence of Polish artists on the international stage.
